Equinox Membership Cost (2026)

Budget Seniors, October 12, 2026October 12, 2026
United States · Equinox Membership Cost Near You · Checked Against Equinox’s Member Policies and Official Settlement Records

Equinox does not have one price. Published guides put monthly dues anywhere from about $205 to $415, then add an initiation fee, taxes and a notice period you pay through on the way out. No two guides we compared agreed, and the one number nobody prints is the one that matters: what your club quotes you, on your join date, in your state. We read Equinox’s own Member Policies, the New York attorney general’s settlement over how hard it was to cancel, and the current state of federal cancellation law, then built a way to price your club in five minutes and a map of the situations where the cost changes.

The short verdict Budget $2,500 to $5,000 a year in dues for an Equinox club, plus whatever initiation fee your club charges, and treat anything cheaper as a promotion or a legacy rate. The digital Equinox+ app costs $39.99 a month, and American Express Platinum holders can get the annual plan at $300, which the card’s $300 credit covers. The real traps are the cancellation notice period, which varies by state, and a freeze policy that now covers medical reasons only.

Key Answers What You Pay What Is Extra Is It Worth It Your Situation Freeze & Cancel

Key Answers Before You Sign Anything

These are the questions where the marketing, the price blogs and the contract drift apart. Each answer is short on purpose; the sections that follow carry the math and the exceptions.

1What does Equinox cost a month?

There is no single price. Published ranges run from about $205 to $415 a month depending on the club and access tier, and The Points Guy puts physical club dues across its tiers in that band. Your club quotes the exact figure when you pick it, so treat any national average as a guide.

2Why do guides disagree so much?

Because rates depend on the club, the tier, your join date, any employer discount and sometimes tax. We found third-party guides quoting different All Access prices that ranged from the $260s to the $370s, and one tracker noted long-time members paying less than new ones.

3What are the access tiers?

A single-club membership is cheapest, All Access opens most U.S. clubs, Destination adds flagship and international clubs, and E by Equinox is priced above the standard range. Guides report that some flagship clubs, such as Hudson Yards, now sit in a higher sub-tier.

4What costs extra?

An initiation fee, commonly reported at $100 to $500 and often waived in promotions, plus taxes, locker rentals and laundry, personal training and spa treatments. Training sessions expire six months after purchase or when you leave, whichever comes first, and have no refund.

5How hard is it to cancel?

Equinox’s FAQ lists cancellation in club, by mail, by email, by phone and through your online account, and says notice periods vary by state. Guides cite 30 to 45 days, and you generally pay through the notice period. Check the notice clause in your own agreement.

6Can I freeze my membership?

Under the June 2024 Member Policies we read, a freeze is available for medical reasons or other legally required reasons, for up to six consecutive months (nine if pregnancy-related), with no fee, if your account is in good standing. It must be requested at least five days ahead, and you cannot use the club while frozen.

7Does the Amex Platinum credit make it free?

Only the app. The Platinum card gives up to $300 a year for Equinox, which fully covers the $300 annual Equinox+ plan. It covers a fraction of a club membership, which runs $2,460 to $4,980 a year at the published range.

8What did the New York settlement change?

In May 2025, New York’s attorney general announced a $600,000 penalty and refunds because Equinox allegedly failed to clearly disclose subscription terms and lacked easy online cancellation. The claim deadline for refunds was August 2, 2025, so it has passed.

9Is there a federal click-to-cancel rule?

No. A federal appeals court vacated the FTC’s rule in July 2025, and the FTC reopened the subject in March 2026 without adopting a replacement. Your state’s gym and auto-renewal laws, and consumer-protection law generally, are what protect you.

What You Will Actually Pay Near You, and How to Find Your Exact Price

Equinox prices by club, and a static page cannot know which club is nearest you. So here is the published range, the reasons it varies, and a five-minute method for getting the number that applies to you.

We started where most readers do, with the price guides, and found a problem. The guides publish ranges that overlap but do not match: one puts club dues at $205 to $395 a month, The Points Guy’s Amex coverage says $205 to $415, a 2024 consumer article gave $315 for All Access and $345 to $405 for Destination, and several trackers quote narrower bands with city-by-city tables. In our price cross-check, no two sources agreed on a single All Access figure. When we looked for an official national price list, we could not find one, and the guides themselves say Equinox shows the exact monthly price only after you select a specific club.

That is not a flaw in the guides; it is how Equinox sells. The monthly rate depends on which club you choose, how many clubs you want to use, and sometimes when you joined. One consumer-price tracker cites a long-time member paying about $330 a month including tax while a 2025 joiner was quoted $370 for Destination, and notes that long-standing members sometimes pay as little as $200 to $280 through legacy pricing. If you are a new member, the high end of the range is the safer planning number.

What a year of Equinox dues costs at three prices from the published range, and the digital alternativesHorizontal bars of yearly dues before initiation fees and taxes: a club at $415 a month costs $4,980, at $300 a month $3,600, at $205 a month $2,460. The five-minute method: price your own club before you tour

Pick the club you would actually use, not the one nearest your office, and open its join page. Screenshot the monthly price for each tier it offers, including any initiation fee shown. Then ask the sales team three questions in writing: what is the initiation fee today, what is the notice period for cancelling in my state, and is there an employer or card discount that applies. A written answer is worth more than a verbal one if a dispute comes later.

Do it for two clubs if you can. A $20 to $50 monthly gap between clubs in the same city is common in price reports, and a gap that size is $240 to $600 a year for the same logo.

What Is Extra, and What the Policies Say About It

Dues are the headline. The rest of the bill comes from fees, ancillary purchases and rules that only matter when something goes wrong. We read Equinox’s published Member Policies for the ones that cost money.

The initiation fee, and why you should never pay it at face value

Guides report initiation fees from $100 to $500, higher at flagship clubs, and several note that the fee is frequently waived in promotions. A joining offer that waives it is common enough that paying full price should make you pause. If a club quotes a fee, ask whether it can be waived for joining online, joining on a particular date or presenting a corporate or card benefit. Equinox’s own policies say it may offer complimentary items at its discretion, which shows how much of the real price is negotiable.

One caution from the policies themselves: complimentary items such as free sessions, spa credits or even free months have no cash value, expire 90 days after issue unless stated, are nonrefundable and become void when you cancel. Treat a welcome gift as a coupon with a clock on it.

Training and spa: the money that expires

The ancillary rules are where members lose money without noticing. Equinox’s June 2024 policies say personal training and Pilates sessions are paid on or before the session date, can be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24 hours ahead, and are charged in full if you cancel later or do not show. Sessions expire when your membership ends or six months after purchase, whichever comes first, and the sale is final. A package of ten bought in January and used slowly can quietly lose its last four by summer.

Spa treatments follow the same 24-hour rule and a six-month expiry. The practical advice is dull and useful: buy training in small packs you will finish, put the expiry date in your calendar, and never prepay for sessions in the month you are thinking of cancelling.

Class rules, check-in and good standing

Some group classes require advance booking, and the policies limit you to one online booking per class category. You can cancel a booked class up to three hours before it starts. If you miss three bookings within 30 days, you are barred from booking classes online for seven days. If you have an overdue balance or your account is otherwise not in good standing, Equinox says it can bar you from entering any club. For a premium price, those are rules worth reading before the first week of a fitness resolution.

Equinox+, the cheaper door

Equinox+ is the standalone digital subscription, listed at $39.99 a month, with a $300 annual plan offered exclusively to American Express Platinum members. At $39.99 a month it costs $479.88 a year, so the Amex annual rate saves $179.88 even before the card credit. For anyone who works out at home or travels, it may be the real answer, and several guides note that Platinum cardholders who live nowhere near a club can use the credit for the app alone.

Two details matter. The credit is up to $300 per calendar year, per account rather than per cardholder, and it requires enrollment and paying with the card. And the app is not a club membership: cancelling a club membership does not automatically cancel an Equinox+ subscription, so check both.

The contract clauses worth reading before you sign

Equinox’s Member Policies are a summary; the document that binds you is the Membership Agreement, and the policies say so. Before you sign, read it for six things. First, the initial commitment: how many months, and what ends it early. Second, the notice period for cancelling, which Equinox says varies by state, and how notice must be delivered. Third, whether the dues can change during your term and how you would be told. Fourth, whether any annual or assessment fee applies beyond the monthly dues; one guide mentions such fees, so ask rather than assume. Fifth, the freeze clause and its exclusions. Sixth, what happens to prepaid amounts if you cancel.

Ask for a copy to take home. A sales desk can tell you it is standard; a signed document is the only thing that is. If a club declines to give you the agreement before you pay, treat that as information about how the cancellation will go.

A related tip: Equinox ran a well-publicized campaign in January 2023 in which it declined memberships submitted on New Year’s Day, according to a reference summary of the company. The point is not the stunt but the lesson about timing. January is when clubs are busiest and promotions are least necessary, so the best negotiating leverage for an initiation waiver tends to sit in quieter months.

Questions to ask on a tour

A tour is a sales call with a view, so bring a short list. What is the monthly price for each tier at this club, and is tax included? What is the initiation fee today and can it be waived? What is the cancellation notice period in this state and how do I deliver it? Is there a 12-month commitment? Which clubs does each tier open, and does the one I want sit in a higher sub-tier? Is there an employer or card discount? What is the per-session price for training without a package? Write the answers down, or better, ask the salesperson to email them.

If you want to test a club before committing, ask about a guest pass or a trial visit. Equinox’s policies say members may receive privileges to bring guests, and that Equinox can limit which clubs, which hours and how often a person may visit as a guest, so a pass is a limited preview, not a free month.

Is It Worth It? The Cost-Per-Visit Math

A luxury price makes sense only if you use the luxury. The simplest honest test is what each visit costs you.

Cost per visit at Equinox depending on how often you goGrouped bars. At $205 a month, four visits cost $51.25 each, eight cost $25.63, twelve cost $17.08, sixteen cost $12.81 and twenty cost $10.25. At $415 a month the same visit counts cost $103.75, $51.88, $34.58, $25.94 and $20.75.4 visits a month$51.25$103.758 visits a month$25.63$51.8812 visits a month$17.08$34.5816 visits a month$12.81$25.9420 visits a month$10.25$20.75$205 a month$415 a monthDues divided by visits. Our cost-per-visit model at the low and high ends of the published range. Divide your monthly dues by the visits you will really make.

In our cost-per-visit testing we divided monthly dues by visits at the two ends of the published range. At $205 a month and eight visits, each visit costs about $26. At $415 and the same eight visits, it is about $52. Double the visits and the cost per visit halves. Go four times a month at the high end and you are paying more than $100 a visit, which is not a gym habit so much as a subscription to the idea of one.

The more important number is not the average visit but the realistic one. Plans made at a sales desk tend to be more ambitious than habits, so use the visits you actually made in your last three months at any gym, not the visits you plan to make. If that figure is under eight a month, the digital app or a cheaper club deserves a serious look.

A five-minute test before you pay

Open your phone’s health or gym check-in history and count real visits for the last three months at your current gym or your most recent one. Divide by three. Multiply by your expected monthly dues and divide: that is your true cost per visit. If it lands above $35, ask what you are buying beyond the workout, such as classes you love, the spa, the clubs you will use when you travel. If you cannot name three, price the app instead.

The hidden cost of leaving: the notice period

The most expensive month of an Equinox membership is the last one. Guides report that you are generally charged through the cancellation notice period, which Equinox’s FAQ says varies by state, and that cited periods run from 30 to 45 days. At $300 a month, a 45-day notice means about $450 of dues after you have decided to leave. Guides also report a 12-month initial commitment, with narrow exceptions such as moving more than 25 miles from any club, though your signed agreement controls. We found third-party guides that disagree with each other on both points, which is itself a reason to read your own contract.

The table assumes dues are charged in full for each day of notice, which is the reading most guides give, and treats 45 days as one and a half months. Your agreement may bill differently. The takeaway is behavioral: send your notice the day you decide, in writing, by a method that leaves a timestamp, so the clock starts as early as possible.

Find Your Situation

Averages only get you so far. These are the situations where the price or the exit looks different, and the trap each one tends to walk into.

You hold an American Express Platinum card

The card carries an Equinox credit of up to $300 per calendar year, which requires enrollment and paying with the card. Platinum members can buy Equinox+ for $300 a year, so the credit covers the digital plan in full. Against a club membership at $2,460 to $4,980 a year, it is a rebate, not a payment.

Two details help. The credit is one per account, not per authorized user. And if you used Equinox before, guides note that former members may need to contact Equinox’s digital team to enroll. If you live near a club and use it, charge your dues to the card and collect the credit; if you do not, take the app and ignore the gym.

Up to $300 per calendar yearEnrollment requiredOne credit per accountplatinum.equinox.com
You live in New York

New York is where the paper trail is deepest. The attorney general announced in May 2025 that Equinox Group would pay $600,000 in penalties and refunds of up to $250 to eligible subscribers who had filed complaints, with up to $100 in restitution for others, over failures to clearly disclose subscription terms, provide the required acknowledgment and offer easy online cancellation. The claim deadline was August 2, 2025, so refunds are no longer available.

What the settlement still gives you is leverage. Equinox must obtain informed consent and provide an acknowledgment, and clearly disclose cancellation information in subscription agreements and on an easily accessible website. If your experience does not match that, say so in writing and cite the settlement. One compliance guide reports a New York City automatic-renewal rule that took effect on October 1, 2026, so check the city’s consumer-protection office for its current text.

You are injured, ill or pregnant and cannot use the club

Equinox’s June 2024 Member Policies describe a medical freeze. It is for members medically unable to use any club, or for another legally required reason set out in your agreement. It lasts consecutive calendar months, up to six, or up to nine if pregnancy-related, with no limit on frequency for valid medical reasons and no freeze fee. Equinox may require a signed doctor’s letter. Billing of monthly dues is held during the freeze.

The conditions bite. Requests must be made at least five days in advance and retroactive freezes are not permitted. You are not eligible with a past-due balance or if you joined through certain payroll or subsidized corporate programs or short-term memberships. You cannot use any club while frozen, and locker, laundry and training-session expiry dates keep running. Email Concierge, and ask for a written confirmation of start and end dates.

Medical or legally required onlyUp to 6 months (9 if pregnancy)Request 5 days ahead; no backdating[email protected]
You are moving away or want to quit

Start with your own agreement. Equinox’s FAQ says notice periods vary by state and lists several ways to cancel, including in club with a manager, by mail, by email to [email protected], by phone through Concierge and through your account on Equinox.com. Send notice by email so you have a timestamp, and quote the date you want the membership to end.

Then check two things guides disagree on: whether your agreement has a 12-month initial commitment and whether a relocation exception applies. Guides cite a 25-mile rule, but a guide is not a contract. If the club says no and you believe the contract or your state’s law says yes, write to your state attorney general’s consumer division, and keep every email.

Email gives a timestampNotice varies by stateCheck commitment and relocation clauses[email protected]
You work for a company that may have a corporate rate

Equinox’s own policies say it may use your data to determine eligibility for offers such as discounted membership rates for your company’s employees. One price tracker reported corporate-discount members paying about $280 to $360 a month where new Destination members were quoted $390 to $415, though treat that as a guide. Ask HR whether your employer has a program, and ask the club how the discount appears on your agreement.

A caution from the policies: you are not eligible for a freeze if you joined through a payroll-deducted or subsidized corporate membership program. A lower price can come with fewer exits.

Ask HR and the clubNo freeze on payroll-deducted plansGet the discount in writing
You travel for work and want clubs in several cities

This is where tiers earn their price. All Access opens most U.S. clubs, and Destination adds flagship and international ones, at an extra $50 to $100 a month in several trackers. Before you pay the premium, list the three cities you visit most and check whether their clubs are in the cheaper tier. If two of three are, All Access wins. If you want a flagship such as Hudson Yards, check its sub-tier before you buy.

Also consider the digital app. At $39.99 a month it follows you to a hotel room for a fraction of the cost, and the combination of a single-club membership and Equinox+ may beat an All Access plan for light travelers.

You are on a fixed income and wondering if it is worth it

Be honest about the numbers. At the low end, $205 a month is $2,460 a year before the initiation fee, and we found no published senior or household discount in the materials we reviewed. If you value the pool, the classes or the spa, a single-club membership used a dozen times a month works out near $17 a visit, which is defensible. If you would go twice a month, the digital app, a community center or a local gym will serve you better at a fraction of the price.

If you do join, avoid prepaying training, set a calendar reminder for your cancellation date, and keep the written quote from the day you joined.

A salesperson is pushing you to buy training or a package today

Equinox’s policies are plain that sessions are final sales, expire after six months or when you leave, and are lost to a late cancellation within 24 hours. Pressure to prepay is common in the industry, and nothing in the policies requires you to buy on the day. Ask for the package price in writing, ask what the per-session price would be without the package, and go home. Welcome gifts, such as free sessions, expire in 90 days, so a deadline on a gift is not a deadline on your decision.

You were charged after you thought you cancelled

Gather your notice, its timestamp and the billing dates. Compare the charge dates with the notice period in your agreement, because a charge inside the notice period may be legitimate even if it feels wrong. If the charge falls after the period ended, email [email protected] with the notice attached and ask for a reversal and written confirmation.

If that fails, ask your card issuer how to dispute a charge for a cancelled service, and file a complaint with your state attorney general’s consumer division. The New York settlement shows regulators do act on exactly this pattern, but a settlement in one state does not govern your contract elsewhere.

Compare dates with the notice clauseEmail with notice attachedThen card dispute and state AGKeep every timestamp
You want to bring a partner, friend or family member

We found no published household or couples discount in the materials we reviewed, so price two single memberships and ask the club whether any partner arrangement exists. Equinox’s policies describe guest privileges as part of some memberships, with the member present and the guest signing a waiver and showing photo ID, and the club free to limit how often one person may visit as a guest.

For children, the June 2024 policies say children under 15 may not use club facilities, locker rooms or equipment unless they are in children’s programming, and that 15-year-olds are not eligible for membership but may visit as a guest while accompanied by a parent or guardian. Read the current age rules for your club before you plan a family outing.

You can’t decide between a club and the app

Use the numbers you have. If you will go to a club at least eight times a month at your club’s price, the club is defensible. If you would go fewer, or if the nearest club is a commute you will skip when it rains, Equinox+ at $39.99 a month, or $300 a year with an Amex Platinum, buys most of the instruction for a tenth of the cost. A hybrid also works: take the app first, and join a club later when you have proved the habit. Starting with the app does not lock you out, though a club may quote a different price or promotion by then.

Joining a luxury gym is a sales process. Leaving is a legal one. Here is the sequence we would follow, built from Equinox’s policies, the New York settlement and the state of the law.

Begin with the law as it stands. The FTC’s 2024 click-to-cancel rule was vacated by the Eighth Circuit in July 2025, on procedural grounds, before it took effect. The FTC reopened the question with an advance notice in March 2026 and has not adopted a replacement. What binds Equinox today is the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act for online sales, the FTC Act’s ban on deceptive practices, and your state’s gym and automatic-renewal statutes. Roughly 30 states have their own renewal laws, some stricter than the vacated federal rule, and the New York attorney general’s settlement is a recent example of one being enforced.

The practical effect is that your rights depend on where you live. A member in California or New York may be able to cancel online or by email in ways a member elsewhere cannot, which is why Equinox’s FAQ says notice periods vary by state. Look up your state attorney general’s page on health clubs and automatic renewals before you assume your contract is the last word.

The cancellation path

According to Equinox’s FAQ as quoted in a consumer guide, you can cancel in club with a club manager, by mail as described in your Membership Agreement, by emailing [email protected], by phone through Concierge, or by logging in at Equinox.com. Use email when you can: it gives you a timestamp. Include your name, member number, club and the date you want the membership to end. Ask for a written confirmation and the date of your last charge.

Freezing is not cancelling, and it does not stop the notice clock

A guide we reviewed says a freeze does not reset your cancellation notice period if you later decide to cancel. Equinox’s June 2024 policies say that a freeze is for medical or legally required reasons and that a freeze request is made in advance, so a freeze is a pause for a documented need, not a way to avoid a bill during a busy season. If your reason is not medical, the honest options are to stay, to cancel with notice or to ask the club for a downgrade to a cheaper tier.

What a refund can and cannot do

Equinox’s policies say complimentary items are not considered in computing any refund, that training and spa sales are final and that locker and laundry fees are non-refundable. Dues paid in advance for a paid-in-full membership are treated differently, and guides report prorated refunds of unused prepaid dues, but only your agreement can confirm that. If you hold a paid-in-full annual membership, ask for the refund calculation in writing before you give notice.

What you lose when you leave

Complimentary items become void on cancellation. Personal training and Pilates sessions expire when your membership ends. Locker and laundry arrangements end, and the six-month spa expiry does not wait for you. Rejoining later may mean a new initiation fee and a new rate, and guides note that legacy prices earned over years do not survive a gap. If you hold a long-standing rate, weigh that before you quit.

Prices and policies reflect Equinox’s Member Policies (June 2024 version), Equinox’s FAQ as quoted by consumer guides, the New York Attorney General’s published records, and third-party price reports we reviewed in October. Equinox does not publish one national price, so every dollar range here is a published estimate, not a quote, and your club’s price, initiation fee, taxes and notice period may differ. Notice periods vary by state, and your signed Membership Agreement controls. Cost-per-visit and notice-period figures are illustrations that divide or multiply the reported range. Nothing here is financial or legal advice. This page is independent and is not affiliated with Equinox, American Express or any attorney general’s office.
