AAA Towing Membership

1. Stay safe first. If you are on a highway or busy road, turn on your hazard lights immediately. If it is safe to do so, move your vehicle to the shoulder or an exit ramp. Stay inside your vehicle with your seatbelt buckled unless there is a safety reason to exit — a stopped vehicle on a highway shoulder is dangerous to stand near.

2. Locate your exact position. Use your phone’s map app to get your GPS coordinates or identify the nearest cross street, highway exit number, or landmark. Accurate location information is the single most important factor in getting help quickly. When you call, be as specific as possible: “I am on Interstate 95 northbound, mile marker 42, about half a mile past exit 41.”

3. Call 1-800-222-4357 (800-AAA-HELP) or use the AAA app. Have your AAA membership card number ready — or pull up the digital card in the AAA app. The dispatcher will ask for your location, vehicle make and model, what happened, and any hazards (if your car is on a highway, mention that explicitly). Let them know if you need a flatbed (for low-clearance cars) or if there is a motorcycle involved.

4. Tell the dispatcher where you want the vehicle towed. You can direct the tow to any repair shop, your home, or your preferred mechanic — as long as the destination is within your covered mileage. Have the address ready. If you want to go to a AAA Approved Auto Repair facility, the dispatcher can help locate the nearest one.

5. Mention if you need diesel fuel or have special vehicle needs. Diesel fuel is not available at all locations and must be requested when you call. If you have a very low-profile vehicle, a specialty car, or need a flatbed tow, specify this during your call so the dispatcher sends the appropriate equipment.

6. Track your technician via the AAA app or text updates. After your request is submitted, you will receive text or app notifications with an estimated arrival time and real-time tracking. If the wait is significantly longer than estimated, contact AAA again for a status update or request re-dispatch.

7. When the technician arrives, confirm your membership before service begins. Show your AAA membership card (physical or digital in the app). The member must be present at the scene. Services are provided to the member — if you called for someone else, you must physically be there.
