Pure Talk Wireless Plans

Budget Seniors, October 15, 2026October 15, 2026
United States · Wireless Plans · Prices Checked October 15

Pure Talk is a no-contract carrier that rides on AT&T’s network and sells itself on simple pricing, phone support answered in the United States, and a 30-day money-back window. This spring it rebuilt its lineup into five plans from $24.99 to $64.99, and most of them now carry the word “unlimited.” That word deserves a closer look. Below you will find every plan, the cap hiding behind the label, the taxes that sit on top, the refund rule that trips up careful shoppers, and the situations where Pure Talk is a clean win or a frustrating detour.

The short version The $34.99 plan is the value pick for most single-line users: it gives 50GB of full-speed data against just 7GB on the $24.99 plan. Every “unlimited” tier slows down after 50GB of high-speed data. The $44.99, $54.99 and $64.99 plans differ mainly in hotspot allowance, travel credit and bundled extras. Pure Talk has no stores, no family plan label, and no parental controls, so know that before you switch.

Key Answers Plans & Prices Real Bill Network Deals & Discounts Your Situation Costly Mistakes Switch Plan

Key Answers Before You Switch

1What do Pure Talk plans cost?

Five phone plans: $24.99 (7GB), $34.99, $44.99, $54.99 and $64.99. The top four are marketed as unlimited with 50GB of high-speed data. Taxes and fees are extra.

2Is “unlimited” really unlimited?

Not at full speed. Pure Talk says speeds are reduced after 50GB until the plan renews, and reviewers report the slow speed is 256 kbps. There are no overage charges, and you can buy extra data.

3What will my real monthly bill be?

Higher than the sticker. One third-party estimate put the $34.99 plan near $41.76 after a regulatory cost-recovery fee and taxes, about 19 percent more. Your ZIP code changes the number.

4Which network does it use?

AT&T’s. Opensignal’s January report gave AT&T the lead for time connected at 99.6 percent, though T-Mobile won most speed and reliability awards in later reports. Check the coverage map for your own address.

5Is there a family plan?

Not by that name. Pure Talk’s FAQ says it does not offer family plans, but you can put several lines on one account and mix plans. Each line has its own data, and nothing is shared between lines.

6How does the money-back guarantee work?

You must cancel before your next bill date, or before using 500 minutes or 500MB of data, whichever comes first. Plan, SIM and taxes are refundable. Devices are not.

7Do seniors or veterans get a discount?

No senior discount exists. Military members and first responders get 20 percent off, and reviewers report it cannot be combined with other offers. Some members of a seniors’ association have had special promos.

8What about hotspot and travel?

Hotspot data runs 2GB, 10GB, 20GB or 30GB depending on the plan, and the $24.99 plan has none. The top three plans include $20, $30 or $40 of monthly roaming credit that does not roll over.

9Can I walk into a store for help?

No. Pure Talk has no physical stores. Support runs by phone at (877) 820-7873, or by dialing 611 from a Pure Talk phone, and the company says its support team is based in the U.S.

The Five Plans, Explained Without the Marketing

Pure Talk’s page tells you the first thing in the headline: unlimited talk and text on every plan. The more useful comparison is how much full-speed data and hotspot you get for each step up, and what the bundled extras are worth. We lined up the official plan page against recent reporting to catch what changed this year.

⚠️ The plan lineup changed this spring, and old prices are everywhere

While we compared sources, we found three different generations of Pure Talk pricing still circulating online. The old ladder ran from $20 to $65 with data allowances of 3GB, 5GB, 10GB, 15GB, 25GB and 60GB. A trade report said the new lineup raised the entry price from $20 to $24.99, though it increased starting data from 3GB to 7GB. Then the $34.99 plan was updated in April from 40GB to 50GB of high-speed data. If a page tells you the top plan gives 60GB, or that the entry plan is $20, it is describing the older lineup.

See also  T-Mobile Internet for $35 a Month (2026)

Even Pure Talk’s own FAQ is not perfectly current. It lists a “$55.99” plan in one answer, while the plans page shows $54.99. We would treat the plan page as the authority and confirm the number on the checkout screen.

📉 $20 entry plan = old lineup 📉 60GB cap = old lineup 🔍 FAQ says $55.99; plans page says $54.99
🧮 The jump from $24.99 to $34.99 is the best deal on the page

Divide the price by the full-speed data and the ladder tells a clear story. The $24.99 plan costs about $3.57 per high-speed gigabyte. The $34.99 plan costs about $0.70. For ten extra dollars a month you gain 43 more gigabytes and a small hotspot, which is roughly five times the data per dollar. Anyone who finds themselves nervously watching a 7GB meter is overpaying for the cheaper plan.

The upper steps are different. Moving from $34.99 to $44.99 adds 8GB of hotspot, a $20 monthly roaming credit, $100 off a phone, and either a watch line or a second number. Whether that is worth $10 depends entirely on whether you would use any of those extras. If not, stay at $34.99.

💡 $24.99 plan: about $3.57 per high-speed GB 💡 $34.99 plan: about $0.70 per high-speed GB ⚖️ Higher tiers: pay only for extras you will use

How many hours of HD video each data allowance covers

Hours of HD video that fit in each Pure Talk data allowance Assuming about 3GB per hour. 7GB is about 2.3 hours, 50GB about 16.7 hours, 30GB hotspot about 10 hours, 20GB hotspot about 6.7 hours, 10GB hotspot about 3.3 hours, 2GB hotspot about 0.7 hours. 7GB (Basic plan) ≈ 2.3 hrs 50GB (all unlimited tiers) ≈ 17 hrs 30GB hotspot ($64.99) ≈ 10 hrs 20GB hotspot ($54.99) ≈ 6.7 hrs 10GB hotspot ($44.99) ≈ 3.3 hrs 2GB hotspot ($34.99) ≈ 0.7 hrs Assumes about 3GB per hour of HD video; Pure Talk streams video in up to 1080p

The 3GB-per-hour figure is a commonly published estimate for HD streaming, so treat the hours as a planning guide, not a promise. Lower-quality video uses much less.

The Bill You Will Actually Pay

Every Pure Talk price on the plans page carries an asterisk, and the asterisk says taxes and fees are extra. That is standard for prepaid wireless, but the amount surprises people who compare a $34.99 headline with a card statement near $42.

🧾 One real-world estimate: about 19 percent on top

A plan-comparison site’s breakdown for the $34.99 plan showed an administrative and regulatory cost recovery fee of $1.87 and estimated taxes of $4.90, bringing the monthly total to about $41.76. The same site put the $44.99 plan near $53.41. Those add-ons come to roughly 19 percent. Your number will differ, because state and local taxes vary widely and one address in a high-tax city can look nothing like another.

The takeaway is to budget with a cushion. If you are comparing Pure Talk against a carrier that advertises an all-in price, add about a fifth to Pure Talk’s sticker before you decide who is cheaper.

💡 Pure Talk does not charge for going over; it slows you down instead

The company’s FAQ is explicit that there are no data overage fees. When you reach your allowance, speeds drop until the plan renews on your bill date. If you need more fast data before then, you can buy an add-on from the Add-Ons page of your account, and you can upgrade at any time. For a household that hates surprise charges, that is a genuine advantage over older carrier models.

The cost is the speed itself. Reviews describe the reduced speed as 256 kbps, which is fine for texting and basic maps but painful for video, video calls and web pages heavy with images. Pure Talk’s own pages say only that speeds are “reduced,” so confirm what that means for you during your first month.

✅ No overage fees 🐢 Reported slow speed after cap: 256 kbps ➕ Extra data sold in the account portal

What the Network Studies Actually Say

Pure Talk does not own towers. It markets “the nation’s most dependable 5G network,” and reviews identify that as AT&T’s. The sensible question is how AT&T performed in recent independent tests, and then how to check it where you live.

📊 Opensignal and RootMetrics point in different directions

Opensignal’s January report found AT&T led for overall time on network, with users connected to a mobile broadband signal 99.6 percent of the time, narrowly ahead of Verizon at 99.5 percent and T-Mobile at 99.1 percent. That same report said T-Mobile led on key reliability and consistency measures. A later Opensignal report this summer gave T-Mobile most of the performance and quality awards, with Verizon winning coverage and AT&T again leading time on network.

RootMetrics, which uses drive tests, told a different story for the first half of the year. A trade summary said AT&T and Verizon tied for overall performance, and T-Mobile shared the speed award with AT&T. A roundup of the scores listed Verizon at 98.4, AT&T at 98.3 and T-Mobile at 97.3, with a tenth of a point separating the top two. The same roundup put 5G availability at 96.1 percent for T-Mobile, 89.0 percent for Verizon and 88.2 percent for AT&T.

🧭 What this means for a Pure Talk customer

The practical reading is that AT&T is dependable at staying connected and competitive on overall quality, but not the leader on raw speed or 5G reach in these tests. Pure Talk’s own broadband facts label, as quoted by a comparison site, describes typical download speeds of 4 to 35 Mbps and uploads of 1 to 5 Mbps. That is enough for streaming and video calls in good coverage, and a long way from headline 5G numbers.

There is also a quieter difference worth knowing. Pure Talk says it does not slow customers down because the network is busy, and that speeds are only reduced once you use your plan’s high-speed allowance. Large carriers’ cheaper plans often put customers behind others at crowded moments, so that policy is a real selling point, though we could not independently test it.

📍 The only test that counts is your own address

National studies average millions of readings and say little about your bedroom, your office or your cabin. Use Pure Talk’s coverage map for the addresses where you spend your time, and treat the 30-day guarantee as your real coverage test. Walk through the rooms where you take calls. Try the places where your old carrier struggled. If a spot is dead, you want to know before the refund window closes.

Deals, Discounts and the Refund Rule That Trips People Up

Pure Talk advertises a steady stream of promotions, and the headline prices can be dramatically lower than the standard rate. Knowing which deals are real, which have expired, and what the refund rule really requires protects you from the two most common disappointments.

⏰ The $15-a-month promotion has ended, and the cliff was steep

From July 8 through September 8, Pure Talk ran a promotion that priced any of its five plans at $15 a month for three months. It applied to new customers and to current customers adding a new line, but not to existing lines. After month three, regular pricing began. On the $34.99 plan that is a $19.99 jump overnight, and on the $64.99 plan it is $49.99.

Promotions rotate, so another may be running by the time you read this. Whenever you see one, do the arithmetic on month four. A plan at $15 for three months and then $34.99 costs $359.91 over the first year, which is still $59.97 less than paying full price, but the savings shrink fast once the intro rate ends.

📅 $15 for 3 months ran through Sept. 8 📈 Month 4 on $34.99 plan: +$19.99 ✅ First-year cost at $15 intro: $359.91
🛡️ The 30-day guarantee has two clocks, and the shorter one wins

Pure Talk’s guarantee is real and its terms are specific. You can get a refund if you cancel before your next bill date, or before you use 500 minutes of talk or 500MB of data, whichever comes first. The plan fee, SIM card and taxes are refundable, and the money returns to your card, usually within two weeks. Devices are not covered, and Pure Talk charges no early termination fee. After the window closes, no refund is issued for unused service, although you will not be billed again after you cancel.

Here is the catch. Five hundred megabytes is small. At roughly 3GB per hour for HD video, it is about ten minutes of streaming on cellular data. Someone who updates apps, restores a phone or runs speed tests on mobile data can burn through it in an afternoon, quietly ending the guarantee while the 30 days look untouched.

📞 The numbers to keep handy

Pure Talk’s support line is (877) 820-7873, and from a Pure Talk phone you can dial 611. Refunds and cancellations run through that phone line, and the money-back page tells you to specifically ask for your refund when you cancel. There is no store to visit and no in-person service desk, so a calm phone call is the main way to fix anything.

Find Your Situation: What to Do and What to Watch For

A plan table cannot tell you whether Pure Talk will suit your life. These are the situations people bring to a carrier switch, each with the move that tends to work and the trap that tends to catch them.

💸 You are leaving a big-carrier bill that keeps creeping up

Start by writing down what you really use, not what you pay for. Look at your last three bills and find your peak data use. If you rarely pass 20GB, the $34.99 plan with 50GB leaves room to spare. If you are a light user under 7GB, the $24.99 plan can work, but the extra ten dollars for the next tier is usually the smarter buy.

Then do the switch in the right order. Pure Talk’s FAQ says not to cancel your current service before signing up, because Pure Talk handles the number transfer during activation. You will need your account number and transfer PIN from your old carrier. Your phone also has to be unlocked and compatible, which is a step many people skip.

🚫 Do not cancel the old line first 🔢 Get account number and transfer PIN 🔓 Phone must be unlocked and compatible
🐢 You called it unlimited, and your phone just crawled

This happens when a heavy user hits 50GB with days left in the cycle. Speeds are reduced until the plan renews, and reviewers describe the slow speed as 256 kbps. The fastest fix is to buy extra high-speed data from the Add-Ons page of your account, or to move up if you regularly hit the cap. Pure Talk charges no overage fees, so you will not get a surprise bill, only a slow connection.

Plan ahead if you stream video on cellular. At about 3GB an hour, 50GB covers roughly 17 hours of HD video a month, and hotspot sessions draw from a separate hotspot allowance. A household that uses cellular data for a TV box or a laptop will blow through those limits much sooner than a person who only scrolls and texts.

⏬ Reduced speed reported at 256 kbps ➕ Buy more data in the account portal 📺 50GB ≈ 17 hours of HD video
🏡 You live where coverage is patchy

Pure Talk’s coverage is AT&T’s coverage, which independent studies rate highly for staying connected but not the best for 5G reach. In rural areas the real question is whether AT&T’s signal reaches your house. Enter your address on the coverage map, then test indoors. Use Wi-Fi calling, which Pure Talk supports on Apple devices and on many newer Android phones, to cover the weak spots at home.

If you are on a satellite or fixed wireless home internet plan, a Pure Talk phone with Wi-Fi calling can be a useful backup, because calls travel over your internet connection when cell service is poor. It is not a substitute for a reliable signal, and it does not help while you are driving.

👵 You are on a fixed income and want the cheapest dependable phone

Pure Talk has no senior plan and no senior discount, so you will not find a special rate for age. What it does have is simple pricing, no contracts, no overage fees, and phone support. A light user who texts, calls and checks the weather can live comfortably on the $24.99 plan, though the $34.99 plan offers much more data for ten dollars.

See also  How Much Does Internet Cost Per Month?

Be honest about the tradeoffs. There are no stores, so any problem is solved by phone or online, and you must handle number transfers and SIM or eSIM setup yourself or with help from a relative. If face-to-face help matters, a carrier with stores may be worth a few extra dollars. Also budget about a fifth above the sticker for taxes and fees.

💰 $24.99 for light use 🏷️ No senior discount 🏬 No stores for in-person help
🎖️ You are a veteran, service member or first responder

Pure Talk’s FAQ says eligible military personnel and first responders get 20 percent off service. On the $34.99 plan that is $27.99 a month, and on the $24.99 plan it is $19.99. Reviewers report that this discount cannot be combined with the multi-line savings, so when you have a family, do the math both ways before choosing.

For two lines on the $34.99 plan, the reported multi-line discount is 10 percent, or $62.98 total. If one line qualifies for the 20 percent military rate, the combined cost is $34.99 plus $27.99, or $62.98. In that case the two routes tie, and the decision comes down to paperwork and what happens if someone leaves the account.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 You are moving a whole family over

Pure Talk does not sell a “family plan.” You put lines on one account and choose a plan for each, and every line has its own data that is not shared. That structure rewards families who vary: parents who use more data can take $34.99 or $44.99, while a child who only texts can sit on $24.99.

Reported multi-line discounts run 10 percent for two lines, 15 percent for three and 20 percent for four or more. Four lines at $34.99 total $139.96 before the discount and about $111.97 after it, or roughly $1,343.62 over twelve months. Two lines at $44.99 plus two at $24.99 total the same $139.96 before discount. Confirm the discount at checkout, because the plan page we reviewed does not list it.

✈️ You travel abroad, or call family overseas

Roaming is built around monthly credits. The $44.99, $54.99 and $64.99 plans include $20, $30 and $40 of credit for calls, texts and data in 80-plus destinations. The credits are used for what you spend abroad, you will not be charged unexpected fees if they run out, and you can add credits starting at $10. Credits do not roll over, and while roaming you can only call the country you are in or call back to the U.S.

If you are on the $24.99 or $34.99 plan, you can still travel, but you will buy credits for roaming. Do the math before a long trip: a plan with included credit may cost less than a cheaper plan plus separate purchases, and a local SIM or eSIM at your destination may be cheaper still for heavy data use.

🌍 80+ roaming destinations 💳 $20 / $30 / $40 credit on top three plans 🔁 Credits do not roll over
💻 You rely on your phone as a hotspot for work or an RV

Hotspot data is separate from your main data. A phone tethering a laptop draws from the hotspot allowance, which is 2GB on the $34.99 plan and only 30GB at the top. For a remote worker on video calls, 2GB disappears in a few hours. If you tether regularly, the $54.99 and $64.99 plans make more sense, or consider a tablet or hotspot data plan, which costs $15 for 5GB or $25 for 20GB and requires an active Pure Talk line.

One more catch. Pure Talk says hotspot is automatically enabled on iPhones but not guaranteed on every Android phone, since some carrier-branded devices block it. Android users may need to call support to enable tethering.

📡 Hotspot: 2 / 10 / 20 / 30 GB by plan 💻 Tablet/hotspot plans: $15 (5GB), $25 (20GB) 🤖 Android hotspot may need a support call
🧒 You are buying a first phone for a child

Pure Talk says plainly that it does not currently offer parental controls. You will rely on the built-in controls in iOS or Android, or a third-party app. The Apple Watch plan, included free on the $44.99 and higher plans, can be useful for younger children, but Pure Talk supports only the Apple Watch on select plans and cannot guarantee other smartwatches.

Because data is not shared between lines, a child’s line also has its own limit. A $24.99 plan gives 7GB, which a video-loving teenager can use in a weekend. Decide in advance who pays for more data when the allowance is gone.

📱 A phone discount is tempting, so do the break-even math

The top three plans advertise $100, $200 and $300 off a new phone. Each is worth a clear comparison with the plan below it. Moving from $34.99 to $44.99 costs $10 more a month for a $100 discount. Moving to $54.99 costs $20 more for $200 off, and moving to $64.99 costs $30 more for $300. In every case the discount equals exactly ten months of the extra payment.

That means if you will stay a year or more and want the extras anyway, the deal is fair. If you only want the discount and plan to leave early, it is not a bargain. Remember that devices are excluded from the money-back guarantee, so a phone you regret cannot be returned under that policy.

🔢 You want a second number without a second phone

The $44.99 plan includes a choice of an Apple Watch plan or a second number, and the higher plans include both. The second number runs on the same phone, includes unlimited talk and text, and uses your main line’s data. Pure Talk says you can even transfer an existing landline number to a compatible phone and use it this way on a qualifying plan. For small business owners or people who want a separate work line, it is a practical way to avoid carrying two phones.

🔧 Something goes wrong, and there is no store to visit

Because Pure Talk is online and phone-only, support quality matters more than at a carrier with stores. Phone lines are the main channel, and detailed usage can take up to 72 hours to appear in your account, so do not panic if the numbers lag. There is a dedicated page for data issues. Pure Talk also says it does not currently match prices.

Keep notes of dates and the names of people you speak to. If you are unhappy within the first 30 days, call and request a refund in so many words, because the money-back page says you must specifically ask.

🔁 You want out a year from now

Pure Talk has no contracts and no early termination fee, and you can cancel at any time. The practical advice is to cancel before your next billing date so you are not charged again. After the 30-day guarantee, there are no refunds for unused time on a month, but the company says you will not be billed on the next billing date after you cancel. Reviewers note that cancellation is handled by phone.

Eight Mistakes That Cost Switchers Money

Most regret comes from a short list of avoidable errors. Each comes with a quick fix.

1. Cancelling the old carrier before porting your number

You can lose your number or end up with a gap. Fix: let Pure Talk handle the transfer during activation, and cancel the old service only afterward.

2. Bringing a locked or incompatible phone

Pure Talk needs an unlocked, compatible phone. Fix: check lock status in your phone settings and use the compatibility checker before ordering.

3. Treating “unlimited” as unlimited speed

Speeds are reduced after 50GB, and after 7GB on the entry plan. Fix: estimate your monthly use first and choose a plan with headroom.

4. Forgetting taxes and fees

One estimate added roughly 19 percent. Fix: budget about a fifth above the sticker.

5. Burning through 500MB while “testing”

Big downloads and streaming on cellular end the refund window quickly. Fix: finish app updates and restores on Wi-Fi first, and test sparingly.

6. Skipping the coverage test at home

A national study says little about your living room. Fix: check the coverage map for every address you use, then test inside the refund window.

7. Buying a phone and assuming it is returnable

Devices are excluded from the money-back guarantee. Fix: read the device return policy before ordering a handset.

8. Not calendaring the end of a promotion

Intro prices jump on month four. Fix: set a reminder for the day the promotional rate ends and re-evaluate your plan.

A Thirty-Day Switch Plan That Protects Your Refund

The guarantee only helps if you use the window wisely. This sequence keeps your data use low while you test the things that actually decide whether Pure Talk works for you.

  • BeforeConfirm your phone is unlocked and compatible, gather your old account number and transfer PIN, and check the coverage map for home, work and the places you travel to most. Do not cancel your current service.
  • Day 1Order the plan and activate, using an eSIM for fastest setup if your phone supports it. Connect to Wi-Fi right away and finish app updates and cloud restores there, so cellular data stays untouched.
  • Day 2Make calls from every room where you normally talk. Note dropped calls and weak spots, and try Wi-Fi calling in those rooms.
  • Days 3–5Use the phone normally on cellular data for texts, maps and light browsing. Check your usage in the account portal, remembering detailed usage can take up to 72 hours to appear.
  • Day 7Test your commute and any location where your old carrier failed. If you use a hotspot, try it briefly, since tethering draws on your hotspot allowance.
  • Day 10Review your bill date in the account portal and the data you have used. Decide whether you are still inside the 500MB limit and whether you are happy.
  • Day 25If you want a refund, call (877) 820-7873 before your next bill date and say clearly that you are requesting it. If you are staying, cancel the old carrier’s service and calendar the end of any promotional rate.
